While a new addition to the Captain Marvel mythos, it's not hard to see why Marvel Studios would add this element to Carol's origin. It's only after Carol returns to Earth (as "a renegade soldier," as Nick Fury describes her) that her memories of her Earthling past come flooding back. Presumably, the same accident that gives her her powers also wipes her memory and compels her to find a new home among the Kree.

The Amnesia ProblemThe other big change with this movie involves the twist that Carol doesn't seem to remember her life on Earth. However, the trailer makes it clear that the basic structure of her origin, from troubled childhood to Air Force pilot to superhero, remains intact. In the comics, Carol became an Avenger rather than venturing into space and joining the Kree military. The movie is clearly making some big changes to that formula. She wouldn't claim the "Captain Marvel" mantle until years later, long after Mar-Vell had died of cancer. After being caught in an explosion, Carol's DNA becomes fused with that of Marv-Vell, and she becomes a superhero named Ms. While in the Air Force, she encounters a man named Walter Lawson, who turns out to be a human cover identity for Kree soldier Mar-Vell. Her driving mantra is "Higher, further, faster, more," reflecting her desire to fly ever higher and seek new horizons. Carol's Origin StoryIn the comics, Carol Danvers is portrayed as an ambitious young woman who leaves behind a troubled family background and enlists in the Air Force. The trailer features one scene that could indicate Carol will undergo a similar transformation in the film. Occasionally she evolves into an even more powerful form known as Binary and can generate her own massive energy supplies. Captain Marvel, however, will arguably be her biggest project yet, both in terms of its blockbuster status and her exposure to many kinds of moviegoers.Carol also has the ability to absorb cosmic energy and other forms of energy and channel it back in the form of photonic blasts. Larson recently impressed audiences with her performance in Room, for which she won an Academy Award, and she'll be seen next year as part of Kong: Skull Island's ensemble. She described Larson as having the right "gravitas and power" for Carol, while also being being funny and playful.

Since the July announcement, Larson's casting has earned praise from both general fans and Marvel contributors, the latter including writer Kelly Sue DeConnick, who wrote the Captain Marvel comic book series for a few years. (Iron Man), so that would indicate that the actress is being prepped as one of the main MCU representatives. Kevin Feige added that Brie Larson is someone "you're going to want to go on this journey with," much like Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange) and Robert Downey Jr.

At the same time, we need her to land and have relatable flaws. With Captain Marvel, who has powers that approach a level that we haven't seen before in our films, you need to counterbalance that by finding somebody who is also very human and very relatable and can get into a groove with the audience, where they're willing to see her fly through the sun and punch a moon away from a spacecraft. When asked by Brie Larson was the "right fit" to play Captain Marvel, Kevin Feige explained to Variety how the actress fits the bill for someone who can effectively portray a character both powerful and relatable to audiences.
